TRIGGER WARNING - sexual and child abuse
NHS Lanarkshire’s gender-based violence services wanted a film to be used to train health professionals and support workers, to raise awareness of the impact of childhood sexual abuse, especially to underline the fact that abuse is always the abusers fault, given survivors often experience feelings of guilt. Sexual abuse of children is an uncomfortable theme that people naturally shy away from. So one of our challenges was to create a film with visual appeal and a narrative drive, that will keep audiences emotionally engaged, even when they’d prefer not to think too deeply about the sexual abuse of children.
Vilte looked after post production from storyboard, to animatic to directing voice overs and working with sound designer.
Nominated by Scottish Royal Television Society for Best Animation.
TRIGGER WARNING - sexual abuse and coercion
This 30 second animated TV advert was produced for Scotland's Domestic Abuse and Forced Marriage Helpline for an awareness raising campaign during the coronavirus pandemic in 2020. The helpline wanted to reach those experiencing domestic abuse who have been increasingly isolated due to Covid-19.
The animation was developed in partnership with survivors of domestic abuse and features the real voices of call handlers who work on the Helpline.
Vilte co-directed the animation with Claire Dean from concept inception through to recording voice overs and editing the piece.
Motor Neurone Disease Scotland needed a series of short animations to tell people what the charity’s all about, and to pass on tips for coping with the disease. media co-op came up with an usual approach: instead of writing a script, we sat down with people affected by Motor Neurone Disease and recorded them speaking in their own words. Then we created the animations to fit the voices.
MND Scotland commented “Everything was perfect. It was a real pleasure working with the media co-op team, they’re so engaged. It’s great the way they challenge you to think about why you’re doing what you’re doing, it’s like a sounding board. The participants are really happy with how their stories told"
Vilte edited interviews and built animatics.
TRIGGER WARNING - sexual harassment and rape
Glasgow University in partnership with Rape Crisis Scotland piloted Equally Safe at School Project.
The project was designed for secondary schools to take a holistic approach in preventing gender-based violence, putting in place support mechanisms amongst staff and pupils with an ultimate goal to eradicate violence against women and girls.
They also needed an animation that spoke to pupils and sparked a conversation. The film was made with a consultation group of young people, they gave input on the stories, the lingo, and helped to develop characters.
Vilte worked with the young people to write a script inspired by real life scenarios that happen in schools, recorded voice overs and edited the piece.
Nominated by Scottish Royal Television Society for Best Animation.
